Jane refuses to be classified as inferior due to her sex, position in society and lack of material wealth. I think Bronte has done an excellent job in expressing her harsh but realisitic views on rights of women and the true meaning of morality and self-respect. I'd like to conclude my review with a line from the preface in Jane Eyre that I believe hits the nail on the head: "Conventionality is not morality. Self-righteousness is not religion."
