chill the test tube in an ice-water bath and collect the phenylhydrazone by vacuum
wash three times with .5 mL of ice-cold ethanol
recrystallize the phenylhydrazone from ethanol/water mixed solvent by dissolving the product in ethanol thena ddint water to the hot solution unitl it is just cloudy
coool the solution to room temp then chill the recrystallized mixture in an ice-water bath before collecting the crystals on a Hirsch funnel by vacuum filtration
allow the phenylhydrazone to dry and then determine mp
