He became a fresco painter and then went to Assisi to paint frescoes at Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi. In the Upper Church of the Basilica he painted the fresco cycle of the Life of St. Francis.
He then went on later to paint frescoes for the Dominicans of the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella. He painted the Annunciation and an enormous Crucifix, which were some of his earliest paintings. He also painted Madonna and Child panel, which is one of his most famous. He also painted the panel of Stigmata of St. Franis.
He got married around the age of 20 to a woman from Pela. They had many kids...
