The DSM-II was published in 1968. Both DSM-I and DSM-II was strongly influenced by the psychodynamic approach. There was no sharp distinction between normal and abnormal, and all disorders were considered reactions to environmental events. When the first draft of DSM-III was prepared, many new categories of disorder were introduced. As soon as the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) conducted the reliability of the new diagnosis, a controversy emerged regarding deletion of the concept of neurosis.
