He falls for a co-actor, Julie, on the show and they become very close, Julie's father also becomes close to Dorothy and proposes. Michael decides to end Dorothy live on the show when he reveals that Dorothy is really Michael. In the end he talks to Julie's father and she forgives him.
The first motif is towards the very beginning of the film one of Michael's female friends is going to an audition for the TV soap series. He is helping her rehearse her lines and he shows her what they are wanting and she responds "you would be better for the part than I would." The second motif I feel is the very first time he sees Julie he immediately seems to fall in love at first sight...
