Frost used many different poetic terms throughout the poem to enforce the meaning and imagery.
As the poem opens Frost introduces the saw and gives the setting. He also gave the buzz-saw personification by saying, “the buzz-saw snarled and rattled in the yard” (1). The reader knows the character is cutting wood because the buzz-saw “dropped stove-length sticks of wood” (2). Line three continues to describe the buzz-saw by the “sweet-scented stuff” (3) that are produced. Here Frost used alliteration with all of the words starting with ‘s’. Frost then gives the setting by describing the “five mountain ranges one behind the other” (5) and how the sun was setting in Vermont...
