Modernism is what kicked off Twentieth- Century American Literature. The authors of this modernistic period had the same goals so naturally wrote using the same ideas, methods, and principles. Modernists like realists both wanted to paint an unbiased, accurate picture of society by confronting the problems of the individual and of the society. The only difference in the two is the difference in societies. These principles could be called the tenents of Modernism.
My working definition of modernism would be a movement in American Literature that allowed writers to be able to express themselves but at the same time be able to celebrate the changes that are accruing around them...
