In trying to grasp what the Wachowski brothers were trying to convey through the film, the following is my understanding of the films meaning.
In the film, Morpheus makes a reference to the Alice in Wonderland, in a sense the film is a lot like the story. Dealing with plenty of cosmic ironic themes, in an attempt to storm the viewer with question of their existence. The film of course, triumphs in illustrating the struggle between two characters and the struggle between the protagonist and himself. The Matrix shows technology as the down fall of human society, again bringing another theme into what already seems to be a movie overflowing with themes...
