absorption, needs direct contact w/wound w/o additional taping o Adhesive, or safe-tac maintains placing of dressing o Adhesive dressings may be difficult to remove w/o damaging skin Hydrocolloid Dressing (DuoDerm, Comfeel) o Interacts w/wound fluid to provide a moist environment o Can cause slough tissue to soften by autolysis o Effective w/moderate amount of wound damage Hydrogel Dressing (Curafil, Woun'Dres) o Provides moisture to a clean granular wound, supporting re-epithelialization o May be used to soften necrotic tissue, allowing for debridement o Available in sheet dressing that can be packed into wound Calcium Alginate Dressing (Kaltostat, AlgiSite) o Absorbs excessive moisture o Exudates wounds o Soft, non-woven pads or rope that turn into a gel when moist o Easy to apply and remove o When a gel, may have foul odour; do no mistake this for infection o Conforms to shape of wound o Can be left in wound bed until saturated (up to 72 hrs) Stage 4 Hydrocolloid Dressing (DuoDerm, Comfeel) o Interacts w/wound fluid to provide a moist environment o Only indicated for a clean wound and generally used w/a filler dressing Hydrogel Dressing (Curafil, Woun'Dres) o Provides moisture to a wound and can be used to loosen necrotic tissue o Used to fill tunneled areas Gauze Roll Dressing (Intersorb, Kerlix) o Provides moisture to wound when moistened w/solution o Wicks drainage away from wound o Should be moistened w/appropriate solution, wrung out, unrolled and packed lightly into wound o Requires a secondary dressing o Changed when soak through is noted on secondary dressing o Needs dressing 8-12 hours
