Hammurabi, ruler of Babylon from 1728-1686 BC is credited with establishing the earliest know written code of laws in ancient civilization. It is in his written code of laws that we find the first concrete forms of ethical guidelines. The Hammurabi Code covered all aspects of ancient Babylonian life such as marriage, divorce, trade and even status. Much of it is used as a reference today when studying law.
