In April of 1861, Clara Barton’s civil war work began. After the first battle, she saw a desperate need of food, supplies and nursing aid to the wounded soldiers. She advertised in a news paper the supplies that were needed for the soldiers. She then established a network in which things were donated to the soldiers during their time of need.(Barton) During her nursing career, she wrote journal entries about why she wanted to help the wounded soldiers, the horrific sights of the battlefields and the limited amounts of supplies for the wounded, and the agonizing sounds and sights suffering endured by the soldiers...
