The government has since said they will not issue compensation to the victims of the stolen generations, let alone make a formal apology (Broome, 2001, p 274). The arguments by the government to justify why an apology should not be made can be explained by a number of reasons, some of which are easy to understand in terms of their own interests and others which do not to make ethical sense. It cannot be denied however that through the studies of written Aboriginal histories, that the wrongs of the past were immense and the effects of the stolen generations are still being felt today.
