The purpose of this course is not to teach you what to think, but how to think. This course will teach you how to think like an economist - to view and evaluate your life experiences, world events, and public policy from an economic standpoint. This course is about more than accumulating college credit or building job-related skills - it is about acquiring skills that you can use for the rest of your life to help you become a more informed and involved thinker. I welcome you to Economics 2301: Principles of Macroeconomics and look forward to a rewarding semester together. Student Learning Outcomes Students who complete this course will be able to understand: -how to manipulate the basic Supply/Demand model of micro markets; -the meaning of unemployment and inflation data and how that data is computed; -the meaning and components of the National Income Accounts, especially GDP; -investment and saving decisions and the role they play in the macroeconomy; -how to manipulate the Aggregate Supply/Demand model of the macroeconomy; -the meaning of the business cycle and its phases; -the Classical view of macroeconomic stability, and the limitations of this view; -how fiscal policy operates, its tools, and its advantages and drawbacks; -how monetary policy operates, its tools, and its advantages and drawbacks; -the theories concerning sources of economic growth; -recent macroeconomic trends, concerns, and policies...
