Not only was the Banks a fishing ground but a feeding and breeding ground as well. This story is one of the saddest in the history of natural resource management for the United States. The Georges Bank had so many fish they could be scooped up in baskets. The American, German, Russian, Polish and Spaniard fishing fleets turned the fish from the banks into products for export and food for their countries, not thinking of future generations who could have benefited from this resource, rejected regulation by the government, and over exploited the Banks to a point scarcity and endangerment.
