The struggle in the play occurs between the whole of the town, each person having different dilemma’s, mainly connected to the decision of whether or not to execute Alfred Ill or not. Another struggle is between Alfred Ill and the whole of Guellen, where he sees that the people are beginning to become desperate for money. All these struggles are seen within the abnormal actions of the people, where there are buying new things and living more luxurious lives, but they do not care about the consequences of their actions...
