The hunters took their horses and rode to the herd like a pack of wild animals; they took all their weapons, such as bow and arrows, and knives. When Standing Bear killed the bison it was a big deal because it was his first bison, beforehand he had only killed a small cow. He was only 13 but Standing Bear wanted to show that he was a man so he was determined. As soon as the kill occurred they started cutting up the bison, loading it up and taking it back to camp...
