A theme such as the terrors of war, is just an example of a theme that young men must be conscious of during life. Such a theme is clearly portrayed in Wilfred Owen’s “Dulce et decorum est”.
War is such a destructive and detrimental act and has throughout the history of man been the origin of much pain. However, too often we see war and all kinds of conflict glorified through the words and films of the ignorant. The poet Wilfred Owens uses his own experience of war and the horrors of watching a man die from gas to express the theme that war is not glorious. He uses powerful and emotive language such as;
…before my helpless sight,
He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning…
Using the title of the poem, Owens states “Dulce et decorum est” or, “it’s right and proper to die for your country”...
