Curley could have done worse to Lennie than what George did.
Curley also could have inflicted more pain on Lennie than George did. George killed him short and sweet. Curley could have tortured Lennie with his mob. Slim as well thought George did the right thing. Slim was a well respected man and a wise man. His word means a lot to others. “You hadda, George. I swear you hadda”. Slim said to George in the end of the story. There is foreshadowing of this event as well when Candy tells George that he should have killed his own dog instead of someone else.
