Their idea of decency and class may be considered a little harsh by the more well off folk. Gatsby, Daisy, and Tom all seem to believe that they are rich enough to make rules. If something they do isn’t considered decent, they can pretty much make it decent because they have so much money to throw around. Since both groups live completely different lives, they both also have different ideas on what is decent and what is not.
I think that Fitzgerald writes bits of himself into both Gatsby and Nick. Like Gatsby, he was in love with a woman who would not marry him until he had money. All 3 of them were involved in the same war...
