Even though this hasn’t happened, Miss Strangeworth believes they should know and should worry. Additionally, there’s the letter she sends to Mrs. Harper under suspicion that her husband might be cheating on her. Only out of “suspicion” does she send the letter. In doing so, this causes suspicion amongst the townspeople, making them “aware” of the “evils” around them. This shows that Strangeworth is acting recklessly and in turn, becoming the evil which she sought bring to light.
Additionally, Strangeworth’s actions are more then reckless, but deceptive. She leads the whole town to think that she’s a sweet, innocent, old lady, when in fact, she’s anonymously mailing brutally, honest mail to the townspeople...
