Benvolio does his best to ‘keep the peace’ but the feud is overwhelming and the fight begins “Gregory, remember thy washing blow!” No deaths occur in the opening scene, but the Prince sentences any man or woman of Montague or Capulet blood who disturbs Verona’s streets again, their lives shall pay the forfeit. Shakespeare sets the scene in the first Act and the feud only escalates from there.
