East during 1964. Three months after his return to the United States, he was
assassinated in New York on February 21, 1965. His own story of his life is
recounted in The Autobiography of Malcolm X (Grove Press, 1965).
This book is a selection of speeches by Malcolm X. All of them were made during
the last year of his life (except for the first selection, made shortly before his
departure from the Black Muslim movement). With that exception, it ranges in
time from his declaration of independence on March 12, 1964, to his death. It
represents only a small portion of the speeches and interviews he gave during
that period in the United States, Africa, the Middle East and Europe...
