However, this group was only partially responsible for the social disorder. A majority of the conflict occurred among the Patriots and their contrasting views and goals for the revolution. Wealthy Patriots saw the revolution as a way of freeing themselves from Britain's harsh taxation and unjust land distribution; ultimately their objective was to stay in control of the country. They knew that in order to achieve their aims they would need the support of the lower class who, on the other hand, were planning on decreasing the power "the elite" had over them. The difference of opinion set up a divide within the group that was meant to stand united against Mother England; this is testament to the disorganization of the Revolution...
